DESCRIPTION:Christ Memorial Episcopal Church (CMEC)\, located at 156 E. Market St.\, Danville\, PA\, invites the community to a profound and moving Tenebrae service\, part of its inspiring Music for a Sunday Afternoon Series\, on Sunday\, March 30th at 4:30 PM.\n\nTenebrae\, Latin for “shadows” or “darkness\,” is an ancient Christian tradition that dramatically portrays the final moments of Jesus’ journey to the cross. This service offers a deep meditation on Christ’s suffering\, guiding worshipers through the events of Holy Week from the Last Supper to his burial. \nThe service will feature scripture readings\, haunting choral motets by Poulenc and Victoria performed by The St. Boniface Singers\, under the direction of Gary Boerckel\, and the gradual extinguishing of candles\, symbolizing the fading light of Christ’s presence. The Rev. Lisa Work\, rector of CMEC\, will preside over the service. \nThis somber yet beautiful service provides the opportunity to disconnect from the distractions of modern life and engage in deep reflection. Through mounting darkness and moments of silence\, congregants will experience the pathos of Christ’s passion and anticipate the joy of Easter. Tenebrae offers a communal experience of grief and a reminder that even in the darkest moments\, hope persists. \nA freewill offering will be collected to support Camp Victory of Millville\, PA. Camp Victory provides a unique camping experience for children with chronic health problems\, physical disabilities\, and developmental challenges\, allowing them to enjoy the joys of camp despite their limitations. \nAbout Music for a Sunday Afternoon and Christ Memorial Episcopal Church:\nCMEC’s Music for a Sunday Afternoon series is a gift to the Danville community\, celebrating the power of music to uplift and connect. Each concert highlights a local organization doing vital work\, with a freewill offering collected for their benefit. In just the first four concerts\, the series has raised over $12\,000\, directly benefiting these organizations.
